You Were Never Meant to Build This Alone

You Were Never Meant to Build This Alone
I remember thinking about what it would actually take to start something new. The idea of building a business sounded good, but the reality? The reality felt like being thrown into the deep end and told to figure out how to swim. I remember thinking, I don't want to be thrown into something and left to figure it out alone.
That fear the fear of having to build the plane while trying to fly it is what stops most people before they ever start.
We assume that building a business means doing it by yourself. We assume it means late nights staring at a screen, trying to piece together systems you don't understand, hoping you don't make a mistake, and wondering if you're doing any of it right. We picture ourselves isolated, overwhelmed, and constantly second-guessing our decisions. And for a lot of people, that assumption is exactly what keeps them from ever taking the first step. It's easier to stay where you are than to step into something where you feel entirely unsupported.
But what if that assumption was completely wrong? What if the problem wasn't your ability to learn something new, but the environment you were trying to learn it in?
There is a difference between being in something and being in alignment with something. I know what it feels like when the alignment isn't there. Years ago, I tried my hand at network marketing. I flew out to Utah three different times for conventions. I put in the effort. I showed up. But there were no systems in place to actually help me succeed. There was no real support structure. I was trying to build something, but I was doing it without a foundation. It was exhausting, and eventually, I walked away. Not because I didn't want to work hard, but because working hard in the wrong room just drains you.
When the alignment isn't right, you feel it. You're constantly searching for what's missing. You feel like you're always one step behind, always trying to catch up to a secret that everyone else seems to know.
But when the alignment is right? There is no question. There is no wondering. You know it when you feel it, because you aren't fighting to figure it out alone. You aren't constantly trying to reinvent the wheel. You are simply stepping into a structure that is already designed to hold you.
What I have learned since then is that a sustainable business doesn't require you to create everything from scratch. You don't have to guess what works. When you are in the right environment, the training whether it's social media strategy, business building, or leadership development is already there. You aren't sent out to find expensive courses or hire outside coaches just to learn the basics. Everything you need to grow is provided right where you are.
But the biggest difference isn't just the systems. It's the people.
When you are building in alignment, you have consistent touch points. You are never left to just figure it out in the dark. If you have a question, there is someone to answer it. If you hit a wall, there is someone to help you navigate around it. Whether it's a weekly Zoom call, a quick video chat, or just messaging back and forth, the connection is real. And the accountability goes deeper than just checking boxes or tracking numbers. It's about genuine support.
Let me give you an example. I have an accountability call with someone who is on the broader team, but she isn't directly under me. I don't gain anything financially by her growing her business, and she doesn't gain anything financially from mine. Yet we show up for each other. We get on a video call, we look at what we're doing, and we point things out that help move the needle forward for each other. We support each other because we are all building our own legacy, but we are doing it together.
That is a different kind of community than most people have ever experienced in a business setting. In most places, business is competitive. But when it's collaborative, everything changes. You realize that there is enough room for all of us to succeed, and that helping someone else rise doesn't diminish your own growth.
Whether you are someone who has never done anything like this before, or someone who tried it in the past and walked away because the support wasn't there it's important to know that it doesn't have to be that way. You don't have to settle for a situation where you feel isolated or unsupported.
And you don't need permission from family or friends who don't ask about your business. You don't need them to understand it. Sometimes the people closest to us are the ones who understand our new paths the least, and that's okay. You just need to decide that you are allowed to do something for yourself. You are allowed to want more, and you are allowed to pursue it.
There is no ceiling when you are building the right thing in the right room. If you want to build a little side income to give yourself some breathing room, you can do that. If you want to build a legacy that changes your family's future, you can do that too. The only ceiling is the one you put on yourself.
Maybe it's time to consider you're allowed to build something that fits your life. You're allowed to enjoy helping others while making money. And most importantly, you're allowed to do it in a room where you are supported every step of the way.
You were never meant to build this alone.
But you also don’t have to do it alone.
